Wolverine Goals

Posted by Jon Kelly at Mar 10, 2012 11:47AM PST ( 0 Comments )

The Wolverines have met and discussed goals for the spring season. Here they are in no particular order. Please discuss with your player on how they will contribute to the team accomplishing these goals.

1. Improving “finishing patterns of play” by practicing small sided games at practice and implementing in games on a weekly basis as manifested by increasing scoring by 1 goal average per game compared to fall season.

2. Synergy by improving intensity, speed of play, mental toughness, team unity, and confidence by practicing Wolverine mental toughness manual principles, positive communication at all times, and effort as manifested by Big Dog behaviors.

3. Improving communication by implementing different techniques into every drill in practice and games such as hand signals, voice, and positioning as manifested by a 50 percent increase in communicating compared to current level.

President's Cup Pride

Posted by Jon Kelly at Feb 21, 2012 10:33AM PST ( 0 Comments )

Way to go Wolverines. Your hard work and pride shone brightly at President’s Cup. The two teams that beat us went to the quarter finals and Rangers went to the semi-finals and barely got beat. These were quality teams that are ranked high in the state system. Here are some highlights for my perspective.
1. Beating Octane: Octane will probably be in our division this spring. It was important to set a standard going into a new division. We dominated this team.
2. Playing in the Regional Center: Wow, was that impressive to play under the lights and perform incredible against a Premiere team (only 10 premiere teams in the state). There were so many highlights from that game. Great job defense. Great goal keeping. Great ball movement. Intensity. Commitment. Even though we had no substitutions, you hung in there.
Playing at the Mesquite Regional Center in the daylight was also a highlight. The stadium was fantastic.
3. This tournament helps us move into spring season. The UYSA Competitive Board will meet soon and discuss what division we will play in for spring season. We will most likely end up in D3, but we may end up in D2. Either way, our confidence should be up, up, up. We have shown we can compete at any level. Yes we need some tweaks, and some improvements, but we continue to make significant progress and continue to compete at the state level
We will begin again 3/2/2012.
Thanks for your continual dedication and committment.

Thank you parents and players for making the Park City Extreme Tournament a success.
The positives gained from this tournament are numerous.
Here are some highlights that need to be pointed out.
1. “TEAM” = Together everyone achieves more: This tournament brought out the best of our “team” There was unselfish play at every position that contributed to our success. There was maximum effort by everyone. The players really pulled together and executed the game plans that we gave them.
2. Inspiring: It was inspiring to watch them work together and play smart.
3. Champions: You are champions. It is hard to end a game in a shoot out. It can go either way. Thank you Hayden for stepping up and playing goalie for an injured Conner. The players are winners despite the PK results. They gave it their all and nothing was left. Houston could barely walk, many were dehydrated, all were exhausted. You played like champions the entire tournament. You walked like champions. You acted like champions. You are champions!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your hard work. It paid off. Players tell your parents “I love Fartlek” and then explain why.
Well done Wolverines
In summary, you are champions that play inspiring soccer as a team.

The Wolverines have spoken and set goals for this Summer.
1. Improve Speed of Play
2. New formation. Team shape. Containing breakaways
3. Possession

Remember that homework and conditioning is mandatory. Please help your player establish a routine. You can substitute the Wolverine Homework into the videos to break up the monotony. Here are the links to the videos again.
