ELM

Last Friday we talked about ELM: EFFORT, LEARNING, MISTKAKES
Notice the ELM tree and the three distinct branches in the picture.
Please make sure to discuss with your player:
Concentrating too much on the scoreboard will lead you to constantly compare yourself to others. If you focus more on mastery, on the other hand, you compare yourself with your best self, constantly trying to improve. And, the byproduct is that you’ll win more when you strive to be your best

On Monday we will talk about:EFFORT AS A HABIT
Few things are more important in sports than effort and hard work. Maximum effort produces maximum results almost every time. At the same time, coaches and athletes are enamored with talent, frequently seeing it as the key to success. But, talent can be a trap. Indeed, nothing is sadder than talent without effort. Talent and effort have to be married to get the best results. Communicating this to your athletes levels the playing field. Your star athletes and third-stringers alike can benefit from knowing that being their best hinges on something they have complete control over — effort.
DIMITT is the acronym we will use: Determination is more important than talent

Mental toughness: Triple impact players

Monday was a great opportunity to get back together as a team. The emphasis on Mental toughness was on the concept of “Triple Impact Player.” (Triple-Impact Competitor, one who makes self better, teammates better, and the game better) Please ask your player what the three areas consist of. They were given a survey to discuss with you and bring back to practice. I have attached this survey.

Friday will consist of ELM (Effort, Learning, Mistakes): ELM Tree has a big trunk to which the three branches are connected. The trunk represents Mastery. In Elevating Your Game players improve performance and win more — when they have a mastery focus rather than a scoreboard focus. The mastery focus is a function of giving attention to things athletes can control — Effort, Learning, and Mistakes—as opposed to things they can’t control — opponents, weather, bad calls, and luck, among other things.

Thanks
Coaches

Thank you for a wonderful season. There are many, many, many highlights over this past season that we could emphasize. After pondering our season I think a very important take home message is to enjoy the journey.
Here is a video from Responsible sports that demonstrates this attitude: http://www.responsiblesports.com/media_library/videos.aspx?vid=https%3A//www.youtube.com/v/3cC4nhDHnhA%26version%3D3%26f%3Duser_uploads%26d%3DAdZL4QkdDkrlx928rk1tdGsO88HsQjpE1a8d1GxQnGDm%26app%3Dyoutube_gdata&utm_source=h5m&utm_medium=e&utm_campaign=tipparent
A weekly message from Responsible sports also stated: "Your children’s youth sports experience will end, and it may happen suddenly. Hopefully, you will not look back and think, “I wish I had enjoyed it more instead of obsessing over performance, or playing time or the team’s record.” Enjoy the experience; it will end too soon."
This led me to think of an article I read awhile ago: “How Do we Measure Succes” (http://www.usyouthsoccer.org/news/youth_soccer_in_america_-_how_do_we_measure_success/) Take a look at this article in the coming days and ponder it. We focus on scores in competitive soccer a lot, but I encourage you to look outside the box and ponder other areas of success.
As coaches we are committed to the “success” of your player. Thank you for this past season.
Thank you for allowing us to work with your players. They are incredible!. We love each play in their own unique way.

Wolverine Successful Season.

Congratulations Wolverines on a very successful season. Here are some of the statistics that I shared last night. We took 159 shots and scored 37 goals for a goal differential of 27. We had a shooting percentage of 24%. We allowed 0.8 goals per game. We scored on average 3.4 goals per game. We ended up the season 9-2-0 and our first state year as 17-3-1. Awesome stuff!!!!
We will be going D2 in the fall. Congrats on your high level of play. Houston was the number one goal score in our division and Jacob was 4th.
Hayden had a 95.9% goal saving percentage and Logan had a 75.9% average. Great goal keeping. Keep up the great work.
