Team goals / practices

Posted by Jon Kelly at Aug 20, 2009 8:24PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Tonight the Team voted on Team Goals for this season. Each one of these goals will help our team improve. They came up with these goals and should feel good about them. As following with the theme of posting goals, the goals will be posted at each practice for team-members to realize what we need to accomplish. Please discuss these goals with your player and what it means to the team.
Here are the goals:
1. "Just don’t Kick it to Kick it"
a. Maintain possession by: Control/head up/shoot/dribble.
2. Shooting earlier
a. shooting quicker
b. looking for the shot by the 18 yard line.
3. Talking more
a. Talking to my team-mates by sayings such as ball, drop, keeper, overlap, give and go, switch, I got, pressure, support, pass, etc.
These three goals are great.

When the season begins practices will be on Friday from 4:00pm till 5:30pm. I appreciate the input.

Probably only one week from Saturday till a game.
Go Wolverines.

Parents mtg / goals

Posted by Jon Kelly at Aug 18, 2009 7:22PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

There will be a parent meeting on Thursday Aug 27 at 6:40pm. It will last about 20 min. Topics will include: parent expectations during season, Team Treat schedule, Field Maintenance, Rules of the games, team philosophy and goals, and etc. Please have at least one parent to this meeting.

Tonight your player also identified many team goals that we can work on this season. Some of these goals included: talking more, defensive shut outs, containment, shooting earlier, supporting each other, "Just don’t just kick it to kick it", dribbling better, moving into open space better, scoring more points this season, and etc. Please talk with them about these goals. We will vote as a team on these goals. These small goals will help us improve as a team.

If your player has not set 3 individual goals for the season then they have a deadline by Thursday to finish this assignment. They can message me through the system, or they can hand them to us at practice. I encourage your player to post them at home where they can see them daily. For instance, post their goals on their bedroom door. They need to know what they are working on specifically to help the team.
Thanks
Jon

Practices when season begins

Posted by Jon Kelly at Aug 12, 2009 6:50PM PDT ( 6 Comments )

When the season begins, we will practice once per week. We will normally have two games per week.
I need a vote on the day of the week. The choices are:
Monday 4:00——5:30pm
Friday 4:00——5:30pm
If you would like my input and preference, I would vote for a friday from a coaches standpoint. It allows for corrections from a Tuesday game and prep for a Saturday game. There are pros and cons on both.
Please post your reply

Teams/Play schedule

Posted by Jon Kelly at Aug 12, 2009 8:41AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

I attended a alignment meeting last night and we have 11 teams in our division (that includes our team). They did not split the division. This means we will play each team once. We have seen many of these teams. Here are the teams:
U11 Divison 1

BE United Hurricanes GR
Wolverines
Piranhas
Strikers DC
Crush
Infinity SC 99 Select
Fireball
Bear River Pride
BE United RA
TFS Thunderfoot
Destroyers

They also announced that we will play on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings at 8:30am. This is tentative till a final schedule is posted. We probably will have a game Aug 29th. You can access the schedule on this website when I get it or click on the competitive soccer site and register there to follow our progress.
Thanks
Jon
