Survey

Posted by Jon Kelly at Nov 3, 2009 12:33PM PST ( 0 Comments )

The majority have voted for the fundraiser, or at least those that were represented last night.
FireHouse Pizza was the winner. I appreciate Donovan Aller and Stephanie Tremayne for their input/research into the other two choices.
We will proceed with plans for FireHouse pizza. Each kid should be responsible for selling 20 or more cards.
More details to come.
Thanks
Go Wolverines

Updates

Posted by Jon Kelly at Oct 30, 2009 11:58AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Please remember the "friendly" game on Monday night. Have your player at the Nibley field about 20-30 minutes prior to the game.

At the game there will be a survey regarding our fundraiser. We would like to consolidate our efforts and focus on one fundraiser. The two main fundraisers will probably be between Papa Murphy’s pizza and Texas Roadhouse restaurant. Details will be presented on both fundraisers.
There are other ideas that you may see on Monday that include Firehouse Pizza, and Domino’s Pizza (seems like we have a pizza theme)
Many have inquired regarding the amount we need to raise.I recently sent out a basic list of fees that the Wolverines will encounter next year. If we could raise the full amount, it would take pressure of many to come up with the fees. My goal would be to raise 2,500. This would cover spring fees, tournaments, summer games, and equipment needs. We could plan another fundraiser to cover next fall. Just to let you know a link will appear on this page with a budget and usage of these funds, so you can track our balances.

Please let Wendy Obray know Monday if you need a hotel for the Summer Games. The team can stay in one hotel and use the conference room for a get together. The players could also swim together and have a fun time.

I do not have a futzol schedule as of today. We may start next Thursday night.
Thanks
Go Wolverines.

Futsal League

Posted by Jon Kelly at Oct 22, 2009 1:55PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Please get back with me ASAP……..
I will probably only take the first 7-8-9 players.

Cache Valley Futsal League Web Page

The good news is we have a terrific opportunity to do something that has never been done before with soccer players here in the valley. Infinity has teamed up with the Sambas Soccer Club and the Stan Laub Training Center to facilitate a "Futsal" league. Futsal is similar to indoor soccer only it doesn’t have the walls and is played with a ball that doesn’t bounce as much. I think it is better for soccer players to play futsal instead of indoor soccer for a few reasons:

  • The out of bounds makes it less desirable for a player to just kick the ball against the far wall and hope for the best. Control is the name of the game. (Less kick and run – more technique)
  • The ball used is heavier and doesn’t bounce as much. (Therefore the ball stays on the ground)
  • Less emphasis is on being physical. More emphasis is on footwork.

Here is a terrific video with info about futsal (it’s short): http://www.motionbox.com/videos/7a96d0b01c18e2c6f5?type=advanced
And here is some information about the league: http://docs.google.com/View?id=ddp5t87f_136ggghk6db

The league will go from November/December and will cost about the same as indoor soccer last year ($30 – $35). It’s not a competitive league (so there will be no team standings) and scores will not be kept. It’s just a chance for the community to PLAY and experiment. I’m very excited for this opportunity for players to play futsal.

The registration deadline is Wednesday, October 25th.

A Great Big Thank You

Posted by Jon Kelly at Oct 17, 2009 9:07AM PDT ( 1 Comment )

A Great Big Thanks to all. Thanks for making the semi-annual Wolverines party a fun time.
Here are the results of the survey:
1. Overwhelmingly "yes" for the Summer games. Summer games are June 10th. Wendy Obray and Shelly Peterson have contacted a Hotel with preliminary arrangements for our team accomadations. We can stay as a team at one location that has a swimming pool. We can also use one of their meeting rooms at nights to get together and party (games, movies, whatever). Let’s have Wendy and Shelly help us out here and keep us up to date. When can we make reservations?
2. Overwhelmingly "yes" to more tournaments. I will begin the process of selecting some more when the Utah Youth Soccer Association releases tournaments for next year. There is a tournament in February in St. George. Anyone game?
3. Overwhelmingly "yes" to fundraisers. I am not a fan of door to door candy bar sales. Please pick your brain. Can we do something this X-Mas season to help with the fees? Any ideas? Come on, you are creative. Some ideas were Mendon celebration booth, Cache Valley Cruize in. These events are in the Summer and great suggestions. We need something in-between. Myers Plumbing offered to help us out a bit (Thanks)
4. Some ideas on the direction of the team = A team bench so the players can sit. This is a great idea. When we play in more official tournaments the players are required to sit on a bench. Many expressed desires to stay district for at least another year. I failed to explain the State Cup and Presidents cup last pm. These are essentially State Championship tournaments. Yeah, mostly state teams play in these tournaments, so they are the best of the best, but………If you win these tournaments it qualifies you for regional play (just dreaming bigger for the Wolverines).
Let’s not loose touch with each other in these coming months. Please comment on the above results. We will need to make hotel reservations in Jan/Feb for the games.
Any other suggestions you have???
Thanks for supporting the Wolverines

games...party...things

Posted by Jon Kelly at Oct 9, 2009 5:13PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

For our last two home games we will wear our tee-shirt uniform for the Saturday game against Box Elder United. We will wear our lime green jerseys for the Tuesday game against the Destroyers.
For the party next Friday night please bring a pot luck. Sloppy Joe’s will be the main course. Please bring chips, salad, or desert. Bring your own plates and utensils. I will make homemade root-beer.
We had our last practice tonight for the year. It has been a great fall season. We have a ton to celebrate at our party. Thanks for you players commitment to the Wolverines.
As the season comes to an end I encourage you to sit down with your player and discuss their goals. How did they improve? What was the funnest part to the season? Goals are not useful unless you review them and see how improvemnt was made. Please email me your players goal evaluation.
I will also have a survey at the party. Please make sure you look at and comment. I did not get much feedback regarding Summer Games (which may be feedback in and of itself) or about increasing tournaments.
Thanks
Goooooooo Wolverines.
